CARROS Interim Meeting
CARROS has two business meetings a year, one at the ACR meeting in the spring ("interim") and the other at the ASTRO meeting in the fall ("annual").
At it's interim meeting, CARROS took several actions:
Approved formation of the new committee structure.
Ratified engagement in the Radiology Advocacy Network
Recognized nine residents who received CARROS Travel Grants to the ACR meeting
Identified future projects:
Development of Medical Student video series on radiation oncology
Membership outreach
Improve CARROS networking across states
Coordinated with the RO Education Committee to host an education session
CARROS/ACR Education Session
CARROS members worked in coordination with the Committee on Education under the ACR's Commission on Radiation Oncology to develop and host an educational session during the ACR annual meeting.
The 2023 topic was "Radiation Oncology WOrkforce: Current & Future Directions." The session as moderated by Laura Vallow, MD and Albert Attia, MD, with sessions led by Aaron F. Bush, MD, Join Y. Luh, MD, FACR, and Arya Amini, MD.
The course explored the data demonstrating a decline in radiation oncology applications over the past five years, likely potential underlying causes, and possible remediations and solutions for the years ahead.
CARROS at the ACR Council Meeting
CARROS supported several important resolutions at the 2023 ACR Council Meeting.
CARROS co-sponsored Resolution 11, ACR Opposes Interference in the Physician-Patient Relationship, which passed with overwhelming support.
CARROS introduced Resolution 37, Coverage of Routine Costs in Clinical Trials by Medicare Advantage Organizations. The resolution elicited significant debate and was passed by the ACR Council. This resolution was then carried to the American Medical Association's (AMA) House of Delegates meeting in June 2023, where it passed and became national health policy for the AMA.
Several Practice Parameters for radiation oncology were passed at the meeting, providing expert guidance in the quality practice of radiation oncology.
Recognition & Awards
Richard Pötter, MD, received Honorary Fellowship with a nomination facilitated by CARROS. Dr. Pötter is professor (emeritus) and chairman (retired) in the Department of Radiation Oncology, Medical University Vienna General Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center,.
CARROS received an ACR Chapter Recognition Award for Excellence in Membership, for the 6th straight year!
CARROS members were elected & appointed to ACR leadership positions -
Join Y. Luh, MD, FACR - appointed to the ACR Board of Chancellors as representative of the American Radium Society.
Nancy Ellerbroek, MD, FACR - appionted to the ACR Council Steering Committee.
Andrew Farach, MD - elected to the ACR College Nominating Committee.
Andre Konski, MD, FACR was recognized for completing his service on the ACR Board of Chancellors as ARS representative.
